Chance Events Are Actually God’s Grace

Some world views would have me believe that I am the product of some random events,
that the Big Bang was a freak accident, one in a million possibility becoming real,
that out of that fortuitous event all the galaxies and stars just came to be by chance,
that in this accidental profusion of stars life eventually emerged in one lonely planet.
All by chance, fortuitously, uncaused and for no reason at all.
Some call it evolution, but all the explosions make it seem like a revolution.
Other call it serendipity. Or, synchronicity.
I look at all this beauty and goodness around me
And I see the hand of a creative, loving God.
I call his handiwork, Creation. Grace. Amazing Grace.

I believe that I am the fruit of God’s indiscriminate love,
a love that is prodigal and unconditional,
inclusive, all-embracing and knows no bounds,
whose nature it is to be giving endlessly.

It is easy to love those who love us or we like.
It is a challenge for me to love those I dislike,
who have hurt or have been unkind to me.
It is easy to love during good times.
It is a challenge to love during times of difficulties, trials and hardships.
It is easy to love a person who is good to me or who does me some favors.
But it is the test of true love to be good to those who cannot or will not return the favor,
to love without expecting anything in return.
I have always been a sucker for mushy romantic stories,
imagining these to be real love.
But true love is much tougher, much more difficult.
That is why it does not break so easily.
I still have a lot to learn.
