Jesus said to his disciples:
“It is the Spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail.
The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life.”
~ John 6:63
The past ten weeks have been a real celebration of life for Anabelle and me as we went on a prolonged vacation in the Philippines. It was one big feast as we shared food and meals with friends and family. It was a feast for the senses as well as we went to places so beautiful we were open open-mouthed in awe and wonderment. It was both relaxing for the senses and tiring for the body and bones. It was a great time to be alive.
Beyond the pleasure of the senses and of the physical, there was also a stirring and the uplifting of the spirit. We experience an awareness and consciousness of things that wne t beyond the physical and the material. We felt the love and friendship of family and loves ones and from friends and ear ones. Beyond the stories, the times and the meals we shared with them, we became keenly aware of the bonds of love and caring that bound us strongly together. Through the trips and the get-togethers we had with them, we knew that they would gladly give of themselves to us – both in good and bad times. That they would always be part of our journeying – in joy and in sorrow, through tears and laughter, with hands always outstretched in loving and in giving.
Indeed, the flesh is of no avail if the Spirit is not there to bring life to its fullness.
